Increasing Parental Involvement and Engagement in Title I Schools/Classrooms

DESCRIPTION:

While often grouped together, parent involvement and parent engagement are two different phenomenons each requiring different strategies and techniques to nurture. What both have in common is their positive effect on school culture and student achievement. Schools and classrooms with high levels of both involvement and engagement have great results. Even schools with high socioeconomically disadvantage students. This session covers the what and how of understanding and enhancing both parental involvement and parental engagement.

OBJECTIVES:

Essential Question – How can schools improve both parental involvement and parental engagement?

  • Understand the difference between involvement and engagement
  • Know how to get the right people involved and the right people engaged
  • Create specific systems for parental engagement
  • Collaborate with peers to create involvement and engagement plans
