Understanding & Identifying Autism Spectrum Learners

DESCRIPTION:

This presentation provides an overview of autism spectrum disorder (ASD), as well as a history of the disorder. Participants will be provided with information regarding signs and symptoms, impairments, and core deficits associated with ASD. Participants will also be exposed to various treatment options available for individuals with ASD.

OBJECTIVES:

At the end of this presentation, participants will be able to:

  • Define the term autism spectrum disorder (ASD)
  • Identify the symptoms of ASD
  • Distinguish between social and communication impairments
  • Identify mental, speech, emotional, behavioral, and medical problems that are associated with ASD
  • Identify the core deficits of individuals with ASD
  • Define at least three early indicators of ASD
  • Identify causes of, diagnostic tools for, and treatment of ASD
